I saw this shadowbox technique on Pinterest, of course. And I filed it away in my brain for “just the right time.”

I have to confess I have a weak spot for the paper planner. Blog posts, store displays, instagram shots – they all make me stop and wonder if this might be the planner for me.
But I made myself quit buying them a few years back, because it turns out I do not like to use them.
In reality, I really need one. I need a place to keep all my little notes and projects and cool quotes and weird ideas and scraps of paper all organized. So instead of buying another one I wouldn’t use, this year I gave some thought about how all the other planners let me down, and tried to design something that would learn from those mistakes.
After a recent outing, we came home to work in the yard. As we fought the long viney weeds that every year threaten to choke out the back fence bushes, Mr. SuzerSpace joked that they looked like the base of the pre-assembled and decorated wreaths that people were actually paying money for in the store.

When I thought up this idea of making an ornament a month so that I’d have twelve different types for my paper decorated tree, I really didn’t think I’d be crafting snowflakes at the craft table with snow falling outside in April.
But here we are 🙂
This time of year it’s hard not to complain about the weather. I know it won’t make any difference, and I try to keep my cold-weather burnout to myself, but it’s hard. Spoiler Alert: I fail all the time and grouse just like everyone else at work.
But I do have an advantage – as a crafter, I can literally make my own sunshine. Or flowers 🙂 Continue reading…
