Create A Score in Silhouette Studio

Create a score in Silhouette Studio to make your paper 3D projects look professionally finished | SuzerSpace

A score in the paper world is a deep crease in the paper that allows the fold to be crisp and clean. Without it, paper projects can show cracks and become crooked on the fold areas.

If you spend most of your crafting time working with vinyl, then you don’t have much use for it. But if you create cards or boxes, then you’ll definitely want to know the tricks to making them.

There is more than one way to create a score in Silhouette Studio. Cricut users also have score options, but since I’m a Silhouette crafter, I’ll be stepping you through that software. I’m also using a Cameo 3, which has a blade holder that accommodates two blades.

I have two favorite ways to create a score in Silhouette Studio:

  1. The faux score, which is really just a small perforation cut
  2. The Silhouette Studio Score, which still isn’t a true score, but it’s a little more finished looking.

I probably use the faux score 99% of the time, partly because it’s the easiest to set up, and partly because I don’t mind the end result. It’s really a personal choice – I encourage you to try out both on some scrap paper and see which way you prefer.

Three DIY Gift Topper Ideas

Three DIY gift topper ideas - big bows, small bows and gift tags | SuzerSpace.com

As a crafter, I tend to get a little caught up in the make-it-myself moment.

I mean really, why would I use store bought gift wrap, cards or bows when I can spend all afternoon trying to make it myself?

Case in point – big bows. I had some very sad looking ribbon bows that I used in my inside holiday decorating for years and years. Each year I said I’d buy new ones, but when I went to the craft store, I’d hold back thinking “How hard could this be?”.

Based on my morning, I’ll go with “kinda hard, actually.” I googgled and Pinterested (is that a word?) and found several tutorials and videos that really looked promising. I found some rolls of ribbon in my stash and set about learning this new fun skill. And ended up time after time with little wads of ribbon, not big beautiful bows.

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards

Turkey Place Cards are easy to make from a printable, and once assembled bright up the Thanksgiving dinner table | SuzerSpace

Just about every day since before Halloween, I’ve been told that Thanksgiving is going to be late this year.

Last week it did feel like it should be time for a holiday, but I didn’t kick into high gear until the weekend, grabbing my trusty recipe and shopping lists and checking out the food section of the New York Times to see if there was anything new I’d like to add.

Once that was under control, it was time to turn to decorating.

Personalized Mug Cozy

I’m a sucker for a good Venn Diagram, especially when they are humorous or snarky. And sometimes they occur in my craft world, as in this project, where my love for lettering, felt and easy embroidery completely and totally overlap to create a personalized mug cozy.

I’ve seen lots of versions of these mug cozies in varying degrees of complicated – some were crocheted/knitted, some were sewn and embroidered. While my mind was wandering last week (I think of some of my best work and craft ideas while either unloading the dishwasher or riding the stationary bike) it occurred to me that I could make a personalized mug cozy by back stitching my lettering.

Happy Bats for Halloween

Cut Happy Bats out of contact paper to temporarily decorate for Halloween | SuzerSpace.com

This year, as I was cutting a new monster for my front window, I remembered that I had pinned another project that I wanted to do for Halloween.

But when I thought about it, making all those pieces and crawling around on my stairs didn’t sound like that much fun. Plus, I’d need to clean the stairs of all the dust and cobwebs. And then I saw this post on Instagram, and realized that a) I did not need to clean, and b) I could just put happy bats all over my stairs and it would be just as cute and my knees would thank me for it.

Bats have made several appearances at SuzerSpace, so I don’t think you’ll be surprised to find they are back for this year’s Halloween.
