Mixed media mother's day card | suzerspace.com

Wow, May really went by in the blink of an eye.

It seems like just a minute ago I was in Chicago visiting family for Mother’s Day weekend, and now it’s Memorial Day Weekend.

At SuzerSpace, the Sunday before Memorial Day is actually the holiday. It’s non-stop racing, starting with the beautifully scenic Formula 1 race at Monaco (usually watched in bed with scrambled eggs, toast & champagne), followed by the self proclaimed “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” the Indianapolis 500. We get a chunk of downtime before the NASCAR version – the CocaCola 600 starts up for the evening’s entertainment.

We usually round out the weekend with planting annuals, bike rides and at least one cookout.

This month I’ve been keeping up with several of my projects:

Still Lettering

I finished The Happy Ever Crafter‘s Majuscules book right on time (majuscules is a big fancy word for capital letters). Just like the lower case letters, I’m going to need to go through this workbook a few thousand more times before I really have it. Next up is the Connections workbook where I’ll spend the next month figuring out how to connect all my brand new lower and upper case letters into words. I cannot wait to see how my favorite swear words look with all those beautiful thick and thin strokes forming their letters.

Still Reading/Listening to Audiobooks

I finished “Let My People Go Surfing,” by Yvon Chouinard. And based on that, the library thought I might want to listen to “Inventing Joy” by Joy Mangano. I saw it on some of my friends GoodReads lists, so I downloaded it.

And I didn’t make it through the introduction. It may be a great book, but the contrast from Chouinard’s “lets do good” mantra to Mangano’s “listen to how I made millions” was a little to much for me.

So I’ve switched to A Full Life, Jimmy Carter’s look back at his 90 years of private and public life.  Much more my style.

Still watercoloring

Actually, I looked it up and it would appear I’m working in “Mixed Media” in that I like to mix up ink and watercolor, and sometimes add in digitally printed and cutout embellishments. Which is exactly how I made my Mother’s Day card this year, which is pictured at the top of this post.

And now that it is the unofficial start of summer, I’ve started thinking forward:

100 99 Days of Summer List
  1. More bike rides.
  2. Much more watercoloring
  3. Start again on purging things from the house that don’t get used. Not Marie Kondo style, just getting back to my practice of leaving an empty box in a few places and dropping in things that are duplicates, don’t fit, or just aren’t getting used, and then donating them to where they can get a second life.
