Personalized Dinner Place Cards

I’ve mentioned before that I’m really a homebody. Given a choice between spending a week in Hawaii in January or going home to be with Mr. SuzerSpace, I will always vote for the latter. True story.

But that doesn’t mean life at SuzerSpace is boring and dreary. Not even close. I like to bring the “Yay” into my every day by making printed credentials, place cards and tickets.

These are quick, but they really make an average dinner night seem like a party.

For a wristband, in your drawing program of choice, create a rectangle about 1″ tall by the width of a standard sheet of paper (so, 8.5″ wide). Fill the rectangle with a bright color, and then add in clip art (or your own illustrations).

Center the event text in the middle, so that when you tape these on wrists of different sizes they will always have that event listing visible. Duplicate them as many times on the page as you have guests/family members – you can fit quite a few and print them all at once that way.

Print these these on regular 20# bond paper – heavier cardstock scratches your arm when you wear it.

These can be cut with scissors or an x-acto, or for an even faster way to get them straight, just use a small paper trimmer.

For place cards, in your drawing program of choice, create a rectangle that is 8.5″ wide by a little more than the depth of your double stick tape. In my case, my tape is 1″.

Then create a second rectangle right below that the is 8.5″ wide by whatever remains of the height of the sheet. In my case, that rectangle is 8.5″ wide by 10″. Divide that rectangle into three even sections.

You know have a front panel, a back panel, a bottom panel and a glue flap. Decorate the panels with bright colors, fun text, clip art or your own illustrations. And most importantly, don’t forget the personalization!

You’ll have to trust me on this, but it is super important that you orient the artwork on the front and back panels so they are facing away from each other. Otherwise, when you fold and glue this up, one panel is going to be upside down. Trust me. Really. I’ve done this for a long time (and I do it for a living, but that’s a whole other story).

I print these on a midweight card stock – something in the 65-80# range. Regular copy paper will be too flimsy to stand up. Once it’s printed, score the edges of the panels. You can either use an actual scoring tool, or a really dull X-acto knife, or a pen that doesn’t write any more will work too. The goal of the score is to give you a nice even fold when you bend the sheet.

Once all the panels are scored, pre-fold the sheet and make sure that the artwork is lined up correctly. Then apply the double stick tape to the glue flap panel, and then remove the carrier piece.

Fold that panel back so that it meets the top of the other panel, and voila! You have a stand up personalized place card!
