This is one in a series of twelve paper ornaments I’m making this year, one a month so that when December rolls around, I won’t be surprised to discover I’ve done nothing about my wish to have a fully paper crafted Christmas Tree.
I’ve mentioned before that I really like the look of glitter but I don’t like the aftermath (craftermath?). No matter how careful you are, glitter spreads throughout the house, appearing in unlikely places like the ice cube tray and your significant other’s toothbrush. Side note – he never appreciates it.
In the past, I’ve taken to using digital glitter backgrounds provided by some very generous designers.
But the other day, it occurred to me that I probably could make my own, especially if someone gave me the digital recipe, like the tutorial I found that time for gingerbread letters.
Sure enough, I found a really easy and straightforward tutorial. And now I can have glittery images, any color I want, just by choosing it in my Photoshop color picker.
Once I had the technique down, I knew instantly what I needed it for. Glittery Snowflake Ornaments for my tree!
This is a straightforward print and cut Silhouette Studio project. At the end of the post I’ve included my file so you can make your own.
In case you haven’t tried and Print and Cut, the steps are simple:
1. Create/Source your art
2. Bring it into Silhouette Studio and turn on the magic registration marks
3. Create or Import your cutting lines.
4. Save your project. Really – save it right now. If you forget to save, and get interrupted between printing and cutting and accidentally don’t save your file, you can’t get it cut right. Ask me how I know.
5. Send the file to print. Be extra tricky and print it two-sided if you like. You’ll have to read your printer instructions to figure out how to do that – they are all a little different. I have to flip my sheet over and mirror the image before printing the second side.
6. Put the sheet on the cutting mat, being sure to have the little square registration mark in the upper left corner (this is super important to pay attention to if you did that mirror trick in step #5 – if you put the “back” on the mat facing up, with the corner in the wrong spot, the print and cut will fail to initialize.
7. Load the mat, check your cut settings and send it to the cutter.
8. Weed your project, add a string at the top and Yay! You have another ornament for the collection.
Make your own “glitter” ornaments by downloading my print and cut file. For personal use only, and if you do make them, become the “Yay!” in my day by tagging me @suzerspace on Instagram.

You are so organised, these are so pretty.
Just make sure you have a safe place to keep these are you build your collection during the year, can you imagine December rolling round and you can’t find your festive papercraft beauties!
That’s a good point! I have them a shoebox right now, but it does seem like making a dedicated paper ornament box should go one my “To Craft” list. Thanks!
